Carolyn Moar
Consulting Elder
I introduce myself to the Creator with two Spirit Names, Blue Sky Woman, and Morning Star.
I have been walking traditionally for over 25 years and worked in the community for some beautiful and powerful organizations and groups for 30 years. As a mother of two and grandmother of 8, & Great-grandmother to 2; I am proud of these achievements.
I worked in various positions from administration to program planning and implementing. I sat on a few boards and am now conducting Red Road to Healing Family Violence Program at Ikwe Widdjiitiwin. My work also includes being part of the team with Kairos Blanket Exercises. I am asked to do various Traditional Teachings and Duties with the City of Winnipeg, River East School Division and many organizations, I perform and attend various ceremonies.
I believe in community and the work that can be achieved. Reconciliation is very important to me as a traditional person.
Nicole Scott MSW RSW PhD graduand

Nicole Scott - is of Red River Métis descent and strives toward decolonization and culturally safe practices. She has a lengthy history of work in public service and teaching as an Instructor at the University of Manitoba. She is currently working on her PhD looking at the education neglect of children in care. She also looks at how to incorporate multiple knowledge systems, including Western science and traditional Indigenous knowledges to engage in an ethical space where both are heard and valued.
The majority of Nicole's past and current work has been to bring to light colonial injustices and strive toward reconciliation. She believes in the importance of ethical practice that highlights connection to community and consultation with Elders.

Adey Mohamed PhD MA BSW RSW
Community Mental Health Therapist
Adey is a therapist with Rise Consulting Services, providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based support to children, youth, and families. Her approach is grounded in cultural humility, safety, and relational accountability, with a focus on supporting wellbeing, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and resilience in the context of intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers.
Adey is also a Sessional Instructor at the University of Winnipeg. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies, and a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies. Across her clinical and teaching work, she is committed to ethical practice, ongoing learning, and creating supportive spaces that honour identity, culture, and community knowledge.
Afolabi Oyegbile MSW RSW

Afolabi is a Therapist who helps clients navigate through mental health challenges by providing a safe counselling talk therapy space, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques, and Solution Focused Therapy Techniques to help you resolve life's challenges caused by thinking traps or cognitive distortions, and to also help you heal from trauma, abuse, grief, and painful life experiences.
He works with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma related to their relationships or family. During initial sessions, he will work with you to delve deeply into the issues at hand and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. He holds a bachelor and master’s degree in social work from the University of Manitoba with more than 5 years of experience working with children, youth and families.
Janelle David MSW-IK (Indigenous Knowledge) RSW

Janelle would like to give respect and acknowledgments to Treaty 1 Territory. The ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, and Dakota Peoples. Treaty 1 Territory is the home of the Metis Nation. She brings awareness to her social location as a settler of Caribbean decent on these lands and the privileges that she carries as a result of her social location. Equally important, she brings awareness to the ongoing process of colonization and the impacts to Indigenous, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples, families and communities.
Janelle is a Community Mental Health Therapist. She is a Registered Social Worker. She holds a bachelor's degree in social work, based in Inner City studies, and a master's degree in social work, based in Indigenous Knowledge's.
Advocacy, community building, honoring self-determination and maintaining healthy relationships are the foundation of her practice as a social worker and her personal philosophy as a human being. Her social work practice and experience involve walking alongside individuals providing a safe space, while practicing trauma informed, strengths-based and anti-oppressive approaches. She has had the privilege to be a part of Indigenous centered spaces, where she has learned alongside Indigenous peoples, communities, elders and peers regarding cultural sensitivity, cultural humility, relational accountability, Indigenous knowledges, culture, traditions, history, healing practices, and ways of being. She has experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, seniors, residential school survivors, families, sexually exploited females and LGBTQIA2S+ populations in overcoming life challenges.

Janel Fiddler BSW RSW (They/Them)
Community Mental Health Therapist
Janel Fiddler proudly identifies as 2 Spirit. They are a member of the Red River Métis, born and raised in the Selkirk Settlement. They have been a social worker for 10 years now and have worked all over the city and province mainly with Indigenous populations. Mainly in the areas of child welfare, mental health, trauma, addictions, exploitation, gender identity, justice, reconciliation, parenting, advocacy, community resource navigation and educational support.
Janel is a Sun-dancer, a Moon-dancer and a Sacred Bundle Carrier. They are very involved in their ceremonial circles and often help clients reconnect to ceremony, focusing on land based ways of healing/learning. Janel strives to utilize the '2 Eyed Seeing Approach' in their daily trauma-informed and strengths based practice. They understand how life saving a connection to culture can be and hope to help others gain a sense of connection to their own cultural identity.
Karli Sigurdson BSW RSW

Karli is a dedicated social worker and counsellor who is passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children, youth, and families. She has experience working in northern and Indigenous communities, where she focuses on creating safe, supportive, and culturally respectful spaces for clients to explore challenges and build resilience. Karli is known for her compassionate, client-centered approach and her ability to build strong relationships with youth who may be navigating complex emotional, social, and family circumstances.
Karli holds a Bachelor of Social Work. Her professional experience includes providing school-based counselling, mental wellness support, and crisis intervention for children and adolescents. Karli's areas of interest include youth mental health, emotional regulation, grief and loss, family conflict, body image concerns, and substance use. She integrates evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), strengths-based practice, and trauma-informed care while also valuing culturally responsive and community-based approaches to healing. Outside of her professional work, Karli enjoys staying active, travelling, and continuing to learn about innovative ways to support youth mental wellness!
Kirsten Nicholson BSW RSW

Kirsten, a settler born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, is deeply committed to truth and reconciliation, serving as an ally and advocate for Indigenous voices, knowledge, and perspectives. As a Registered Social Worker with a degree in Developmental Studies (specializing in child development) and a diploma in Early Childhood Education, Kirsten brings nearly a decade of experience working with children and families in the social services sector. Her practice is characterized by a holistic, systemic, anti-oppressive, and strength-based approach. By focusing on an individual’s inherent strengths, interests, and resilience, Kirsten supports them in achieving their goals and overcoming challenges.
Greg Murray - BA Applied Counseling
Action Therapist
Greg is a settler born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory. As a settler, he is committed to walk the path of Truth and Reconciliation, actively addressing the TRC’s Calls to Action as an ally and advocate for Indigenous voices, knowledge and ways of being.
Greg holds a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the University of Winnipeg as well as an Applied Counselling Certificate. He has been working for nearly a decade in youth counselling and is an experienced mental health facilitator and trainer. He is grateful for the many opportunities he has had to travel throughout Winnipeg and northern Manitoba to provide Psychological First Aid certifications and work alongside community to offer training to meet their needs.
As an Action Therapist his goal is to help youth tap into their interests and potential, so they can improve their holistic well-being, find meaningful ways to contribute to their communities, and thrive.
